1. How much does it cost to install a garage door?
The price will depend on how much work has to be done. We have to consider such factors as the size of the door (its width), the headspace between floor and ceiling when choosing the type of tracks and, if required, the electrical operator. We advise you to contact your local Garex distributor and ask for a cost estimate. |
|
2. Can thermos panes be inserted once the door has been installed?
It's always possible to add windows to one or more sections of a Garex door. The sections comply with the same standards as a steel door. If, however, you intend to do such work, we recommend that you contact one of our Garex distributors. The door's weight may be affected and adjustment of the springs may be necessary. |
|
3. Does a garage door require much maintenance?
No. Portes Garex recommends a minimum of maintenance to keep your door running smoothly and safely. Consult the section on maintaining your garage door on this site. Or ask for an installation and maintenance guide directly from us or from our distributors. |

4. What's the difference between polyurethane insulation and polystyrene insulation?
Portes Garex uses polyurethane insulation to ensure thermal resistance in excess of R-16 (RSI: 2.8). Polyurethane is foamed into place, infiltrating every nook and cranny and thus providing perfect airtightness. Polystyrene (styrofoam) cannot provide such airtightness because it leaves space between the sheeting. As well, pressure-injected polyurethane insulation adheres strongly to the exterior and interior siding, thus forming a light and very sturdy composite panel. |

5. How do I know my door is properly balanced?
Whatever its size, you can find out whether your garage door is properly balanced by opening it with one hand. If it's too hard to open, the springs are probably incorrectly adjusted. You should contact one of our Garex distributors. |

6. Two types of tracks are available: 50 mm (2") and 76 mm (3"). Which one do you recommend?
The choice of tracks and lift door depends on both the use of the door and its weight. If you're planning on routine use, i.e., 8 operations and less per hour, and if your door's surface is less than 15 m², we recommend a door thickness of 50 mm (2"). If you're planning on more intense use and/or if your door's surface is more than or equal to 15 m², we recommend a thickness of 76 mm (3"). For further details, contact your Garex distributor. |
