F.A.Q.
1. How much does it cost to install a garage door?
The cost depends on the amount of work to be done. Among other things, we have to consider the size of the door (width), the available space between the floor and ceiling (to determine track type) and the possibility of using an electrical operator. We recommend you contact your regional Garex distributor for an estimate.
2. Can I add thermos windows to the garage door after it has been installed?
It is possible to add windows to one or more panels of a Garex door . However, we suggest you contact a Garex distributor if you plan to modify one of our doors, since the modifications may affect the door's weight and require the springs to be readjusted.
3. Does a garage door require a lot of maintenance?
No. Portes Garex recommends minimum maintenance be conducted to ensure your garage door operates smoothly and safely. For more information, consult the garage door maintenance section of this website or ask for an Installation and Maintenance Guide from a Garex distributor.
4. What's the difference between polyurethane insulation and polystyrene insulation?
Portes Garex uses polyurethane insulation to provide a superior R-16 thermal resistance rating (RSI: 2.8). Polyurethane is a type of foam that fills every nook of the space in which it is blown, forming a perfect seal against the weather. Polystyrene (styrofoam) cannot offer the same weatherseal protection, owing to the gap that exists between the polystyrene core and the metal panel skin. Our light and robust door panels comprise an aluminum or steel skin and a pressure-injected polyurethane insulation core.
5. How can I tell if my door is properly balanced?
A properly balanced garage door of any size can be easily opened with one hand. If your garage door is difficult to open, it is likely that the springs are not properly adjusted. We recommend you contact a Garex distributor for assistance.
6. Two types of tracks are available: 50 mm (2") and 76 mm (3"). Which one do you recommend?
The choice of tracks and hardware depends on the door's purpose and weight. If the door will be opened 8 or fewer times per hour and its surface area is less than 15 m2, we recommend 50 mm (2") track. If the door will be opened more frequently and/or it is 15 m2 or larger, we recommend 76 mm (3") track. For more information, contact your Garex distributor.
