Maintenance

To ensure your garage door continues to operate smoothly for many years, it is important that you conduct the annual maintenance program described below or have a qualified installation technician do it for you.

Door surface:

• Wash the door at least once a year with mild soap and a car brush. Avoid powerful cleansers, as they could damage the finish.
• Avoid cleaners that are too strong and may ruin the paint.
• Apply a coating of car wax to give your door a nice shine and make it easier to clean.

Door jamb and panel seals:

• Wash them with mild soap to preserve their appearance and suppleness.
• Apply a silicone-based lubricant to the seals about twice a year. Caution: Do NOT use an oil-based lubricant.

Hardware:

• Lubricate all moving parts with motor oil (ex. 10W -30) twice a year: rollers, hinges, pulleys, springs and the locking mechanism.
• Verify the hinges, rollers, bolts and track supports. If something seems amiss, immediately contact a garage door installation technician.
• If you notice anything unusual, immediately contact a specialist in garage door maintenance and installation.

Electrical operating system:

• We recommend you verify the garage door operating system every three months.
• Open and close the door by hand. A properly balanced garage door will open and close easily. If the door is unbalanced or hard to open, immediately contact a garage door installation technician.
• Check the safety device (sensor edge along the bottom of the door). The garage door should reverse its movement automatically if an object or person is located in the path of the door. If something seems amiss, immediately contact a garage door installation technician.

 Caution: To avoid injury, you should never attempt to adjust the springs, hinges or lifting cables yourself. Instead, you should call a Portes Garex installation technician, who is qualified to make such adjustments.

Warranty

Portes Garex guarantees that the products it manufactures shall be free from defects in workmanship and material for a period of one (1) year as of the date of purchase from an authorized distributor.

Furthermore, Portes Garex offers the following warranty protection:

Rust Perforation
Portes Garex guarantees its door panels against rust perforation under normal usage conditions or under normal climactic conditions. A lifetime warranty is in effect for aluminum panels, and a 25-year warranty for steel panels.

Residential Doors
Portes Garex guarantees its pale aluminum doors against delamination for a period of five (5) years, and its dark aluminum doors and steel doors for a period of one (1) year. The warranty takes effect as of the date of purchase from an authorized distributor.

Hardware
Portes Garex guarantees its garage door hardware shall be free from defects in workmanship and material for a period of two (2) years. The warranty takes effect as of the date of purchase from an authorized supplier.

Paint
Portes Garex guarantees the original paint on its aluminum doors for a period of five (5) years, and the original paint on its steel doors for a period of one (1) year. The warranty covers cracking and blistering.

Specific Limited Warranty Conditions:
The warranty will cover the full amount paid the first year and will decrease on a pro rata basis thereafter according to the number of years of the warranty. This value of the warranty is calculated from the basic list price of the authorized dealer.
The warranty will be valid as long as the purchaser owns the home where the door is installed and as long as the purchaser retains the original bill.

The warranty is void if:

• The product was modified by or for the purchaser;
• The product was not properly installed;
• The product was not maintained, cleaned and/or lubricated as stipulated by the manufacturer.

The warranty excludes:

• Replacement product transportation costs;
• Replacement product installation and labour costs;
• The cost of lost business, merchandise, inventory and/or equipment resulting from a defective Garex product;
• Responsibility as to changes in models, materials, standard colours and so on.

Portes Garex reserves the right to supply a product of similar quality but of a different colour if the colour of the product to be replaced has bled or is otherwise defective.

The replaced product or part remains the exclusive property of Portes Garex and must be returned to the company's main place of business at the expense of the purchaser.

• By purchasing a Garex product, the purchaser accepts this warranty and agrees it is the only official warranty, thereby excluding any other representation, warranty or condition, whether explicit or implicit, offered by any third party;
• All claims must be submitted to the manufacturer in writing within thirty (30) days of knowledge of the alleged defect. The claims must be received by Portes Garex during the warranty period; otherwise the warranty shall not be honoured;
• The user of a Garex product agrees to conduct the annual maintenance recommended and stipulated by Portes Garex in its Installation and Maintenance Guide.
